More than you bargained for down in the woods?

A walk in the woods can be an opportunity for some quiet soul-searching – but the new single 'Forest Lover' by the Cornish folk rock band Love Street tells the story of a more dangerous encounter. You may find there's more to life – and to you – than you thought, and the challenge of re-connecting to the raw you may be more perilous than you imagined.

The latest release, to be included on the upcoming album 'Walking the High Wire', is rooted in mythology and folklore, like many of Love Street's lyrics. The band are well-known for their tight, high-energy performances and have been hailed as an original new folk-rock talent.

Take a walk on the wild side with Love Street and see where it takes you!

PARK FIRES UNVEIL NEW SINGLE ‘DEADBEAT CITY’

Electro-pop disco anthem hits download/streaming sites on Friday 7th October

UK electropop duo Park Fires will release their new single Deadbeat City on Friday 7th October. The infectious new track combines a singalong disco chorus with pulsating electro beats and socially conscious lyrics.

Since forming two years ago, Park Fires have been busy perfecting their hybrid of pure pop melodies, acerbic Northern lyrics and electro soundscapes. Adopting a punk-esque DIY work ethic and ethos to their fiery brand of mainstream pop has quickly led to BBC Introducing airplay and live sessions, festival appearances and glowing online coverage from the UK, USA and Europe. Influenced by synth pop pioneers The Human League and sharing DNA with electro contemporaries Chvrches and Years & Years, the girls have played a string of sell out shows in Leeds and featured regularly on local and online radio. One of the few singles in 2016 to attack the growing social and economic divide in Brexit Britain, Deadbeat City might have thought-provoking and hard-hitting lyrical content but it comes wrapped in one of the most infectious and rousing choruses you’ll hear all year.

Park Fires will be playing live dates this Autumn - for more dates and info head to facebook.com/parkfires

Butch Walker: guitar-slinger, troublemaker, raconteur, producer, Georgia boy. Writer of dozens of songs with hooks that stick in your head; Choruses you want to sing (or shout) along to; teller of authentic stories of exploits and predicaments and romance that are filled with optimism; builder of albums with no boundaries - rock, pop, Americana, singer-songwriter … or, as Butch tells it, “I think it’s all just rock & roll.”

Stay Gold is Butch’s 8th album. The last one, 2015’s Ryan Adams’ produced Afraid Of Ghosts, was a cathartic record that dealt with a devastating personal experience, the passing of his father. This one’s a celebration. In Butch’s words, “After coming out of the AOG album cycle and tour where, at the risk of sounding ridiculous, I spent a lot of time on stage bawling my eyes out, I felt a very calm sense of peace. Like I’d done what I needed to do to get it outta my system. Every song that came after that was almost a nostalgic, celebratory ... for lack of a better word - “jam.” And the songs just kept coming to me (snaps fingers three times), which was good cos that’s not always the case!”

You’ll find that the stories on Stay Gold are very well fleshed out, something Butch credits to “growing up on some of those dudes - Elton John and the (Bernie) Taupin lyrics, Springsteen and Joel. I love that stuff. I had a buddy, Matt Marston, who was actually dating my sister back in the early 90s. He was a songwriter and ended up being a pretty big unsung influence on me because – well, there’s no escaping the fact that I had a hair metal band in the late 80s / early 90s and it was a lot of fun but it wasn’t always very broad, lyrically. I certainly listened to people whose words blew my mind, like Elvis Costello, Tom Waits and others, but I couldn’t cop it. I didn’t even understand how to go about it. And this guy, Matt, opened my mind. He could paint these vivid pictures and stories … so, I asked him how he did it. He told me, ‘I just kind of pay attention to my surroundings, sitting on the subway or the bus and I see a guy over in the corner reading the paper, he’s maybe like fifty-five-years-old, sixty-years-old, and I’m wondering what his story is.’ For some reason, the light bulb went off in my head. I gotta give it to that guy, Matt, for helping me figure it out.” That long ago ’eureka moment’ still informs Butch’s writing and the material on Stay Gold is clearly his best to date. When asked if the stories are real or imagined, he replies, “All the songs are half true.”

The album kicks off with the title track, a straight-ahead rocker loaded with swagger, the lyrics calling out native GA locales. It’s a tale Butch says is “about being from a shit-dead-end-town and not having a glimmer of hope. I wanted this record to somehow spin all of those negative stories into a positive light.” And that, it does. Butch’s writerly eye for detail is apparent in one of Stay Gold’s standout tracks, “Wilder In The Heart.” Describing an airport meeting with a girlfriend, Butch sings, “Baby blue suitcase from your grandad / New tattoo above your bra.” Then there’s a disarming cut-right-to-it honesty when he asks, “Did you come back to say you’re sorry / Or are you just scared of being alone.” Interesting to note – ‘Wilder’ was the first song written and recorded for the album. The ballad, “Descending” is a unique one in Butch’s canon. A beautiful, decidedly tender duet / co-write with country singer, Ashley Monroe. “Irish Exit” provides a cool stylistic shift with a Celtic sound on a lively and hilarious tune about ducking out of a party to get away from the “selfie selves.” There’s a tight, dramatic segue into the down-tempo ballad “Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night” that indirectly makes us focus on the provocative topic - things getting physical with a friend and the awkwardness of the morning after. The rasp in Butch’s voice here adds so much, you can feel him digging deep to capture the emotion. “Spark: Lost” begins the album’s wrap up with a monster chorus and a gorgeous guitar solo. “Record Store” is a nostalgic heartfelt look at diminishing record store culture, with a subplot about having a thing for a “badass rock chick that worked the counter.” Written specifically as a closing song on the very last day of recording, Butch explains the basic track “was done live - acoustic and vocal. And it kinda got to me as I was singing it. Which sounds cheesy to say, but it hit home. A sore subject for many of us. The record stores I hung out at really shaped me as a musician, shaped me as a person … and I wish it was as big a thing in shaping kids today.”

That sort of compassion and the freedom we sense from a Butch Walker album are a big part of what draws us in. He makes records exactly the way he wants to, never does the same kind twice. It’s a freedom Butch has earned, further honing his craft through outside production work and writing for others The wide range of artists he’s collaborated with is dizzying and remarkable - everyone from cutting edge musicians like Frank Turner, Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem), Shovels & Rope, Puffy AmiYumi and The Von Bondies to mainstream blockbusters like Taylor Swift, Harry Connick Jr., Katy Perry and Pink. “I love helping other people make their music. It feels good to get outside of my own box.”

Butch Walker is an authentic, modern-day guitar hero. A humble man who openly shares credit for the power of Stay Gold with ace players like keyboardist Roger Manning Jr. (Jellyfish, Beck, AIR), drummer Mark Stepro (Ben Kweller, Keith Urban, Panic! At The Disco) and Suzanne Santos (HoneyHoney) on backing vocals and violin. Before Butch darts back into the studio, he grins and says, “It’s been fun to listen to (Stay Gold) in the car. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t play my records after I do ‘em. And it’s a blast to drive down the PCH and listen. I wanted to make that kind of record.”

KIDS FOR PEACE

“Why Can’t We”

unknown.png

Way back in 1999, hit songwriter David Martin (Barry Manilow "Can’t Smile Without you” amongst others) www.davidmartinsingersongwriter.com, was delighted to be asked by BBC TV Producer John Molloy, to write a theme song for The Children In Need charity programme which that year was celebrating it’s 10th year on BBC National Television. Co-hosted by the late Terry Wogan, it had become and still is, a rich source of fund raising for many children’s causes around the UK. The song ‘If You Want To Help’ (Help Children In Need) became a regular on the show and was featured over a ten year period. The song was originally performed by the Finchley Youth Music Group and from the year 2000 on, also featured top flight celebrities who sang the song with the children. These included, David Essex, the late Roy Castle and many others.

Now is 2016 David couldn’t help observing, how strong the power of song can be, when drawing attention to a worthwhile cause.  The current state of terrorism in the word with attacks being launched on Capital Cities around the globe, once again, triggered David into thinking about coming up with a song which might take its place in helping to make the human race see sense and realise that peace in the world is worth far more than war, so David has teamed up with music pals Tony Burrows and Graham Noon, to write a song for world peace, “Why Can’t We”.  The song features Pop Skool, a choir of young girls aged 8 to 12 and is put together and coached by Josie Quinn a gifted singer/musician in her own right.

Released on the REFRESH Label, the song will be available on download and CD, any income from which, will go to 'Save The Children UK', who have expressed their delight at being the recipients of these donations and who are fully aware of Pop Skool performing ‘ Why Can’t We’ under our `Kids For Peace’ banner.

It is hoped that if this song can make a modicam of difference in the world, then all efforts have not been in vain.

NATALIE McCOOL

NEW SINGLE - ‘PINS’

RELEASED - 28TH OCTOBER 2016

NEW ALBUM - ‘THE GREAT UNKNOWN’

RELEASED - 25TH NOVEMBER 2016

LONDON SHOW - CARGO – 23 NOVEMBER 2016

Liverpool based, Natalie McCool is set to release a new single on her own Fortress Sounds label via Ditto Music on the 28th of October 2016 followed by her new album The Great Unknown on 25 November

Natalie’s new album, ‘The Great Unknown’ is the follow up to 2013’s eponymously titled debut and was recorded and produced with Dave Berger from Outfit at Schall Und Wahn in Liverpool. The new long player also features additional production and mixes on the singles ‘Pins’, ‘Cardiac Arrest’, ‘Fortress’ and ‘Oh Danger’ by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Clean Cut Kid, VITAMIN) and is without doubt McCool’s finest and most accomplished set of songs to date.

As mentioned,  the new single ‘Pins’ was recorded and produced with Dave Berger from Outfit and features additional production and mixes by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Clean Cut Kid, VITAMIN). A favourite of Huw Stephens, the single will be available digitally at all the usual major outlets and is the first track to be lifted from the singer / songwriter and mult-instumentalist’s forthcoming second album.

Perfect future pop that sets Natalie apart from her contemporaries, her early work was built on a foundation of deliciously dark, gloomy indie-pop. ‘The Great Unknown’ is a new awakening - emerging from the shadows and rising victoriously with a number of prickly pop tunes like the newly recorded forthcoming single and Huw Stephens favourite 'Pins' and rousing epic numbers like 'Fortress' enveloping subtly emotive songs such as Radio One play listed 'Cardiac Arrest'.

Since arriving over three years ago with the release of her debut album, with whom she collaborated with Suede legend Bernard Butler, the singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist has picked up a steadily growing support base of fans and critics alike with her truly innovative and beautiful take on pop music.

Vibrant with effortlessly catchy songs, McCool can count The Sunday Times, Wonderland, Q, Clash, Line of Best Fit, The 405, Huw Stephens and Alice Levine amongst her fans, while BBC Introducing described the artist as “one of the finest emerging songwriters around”.

Having recently completed a successful UK Tour, Natalie and her band will play a special London show as guests of 1883 Magazine at their event at Cargo on Wednesday the 23rd November 2016.

LIVE DATE:

NOV 23RD            CARGO, SHOREDITCH, LONDON

“Quickly buries itself under your skin with its mechanically brushed drums and jazz-inflected pangs of lovesick fragility.”

Q

“Mesmerising lilt-pop gem.”

The Sunday Times

“Sure to cement McCool’s status as one of the country’s most promising songwriters.”

Leeds grit-rock four-piece Neon Dolls have announced the release of their new single Step Out Of The Dark for Friday 7th October. The visceral new single is lifted from their upcoming second album When It Strikes and combines classic rock riffs, pounding drums and football terrace melodies.

Since forming two years ago, Neon Dolls have been busy perfecting their hybrid of muscular Britpop and shoutalong punk vocals and blowing away audiences on the buzzing Leeds music scene. Formed from the ashes of defunct bands on the scene, the boys quickly developed a sonic formula influenced by Northern guitar greats Oasis, The Verve and The Stone Roses as well as more recent hardcore and grunge bands from the USA. With a growing fanbase affectionately dubbed the Neon Army behind them, tracks from their debut album Imperial (released last year) were playlisted on BBC Introducing and their sold out live shows led to Fred Perry Subculture hailing them as one of the best new bands in the country.

Neon Dolls will embark on a UK tour this Autumn - for more dates and info head to neondolls.co.uk.

With inspiration from the likes of Cage The Elephant, Kings Of Leon, BB King, John Mayer, The 1975, Ben Howard etc.  JAMES KING not only has great taste in music but is rapidly carving out a name for himself, as a truly accomplished Songwriter and Performer.

Originally from Yorkshire but now based in London James has already starting to establish himself across many of the London music venues like, Proud, The Troubador, The Bedford, The Water Rats, Sebright Arms, World’s End, Underbelly, Sanctum Soho, The Garage, Roadtrip, Half Moon etc. Outside of London James has played the Sundown Festival and most of Yorkshire!  Alongside this he has already performed at Webster Hall and Times Square in New York, played the New York Coffee Festival and toured Nashville!

With an ever growing body of superb, original songs and a great band behind him, James is busying himself both performing and recording tracks for his album and single release, the most recent of which “Kemosabe Shore” was Produced by Pete Dowsett at London’s Pedigree Cuts studios and is the brand new single.   James explains the meaning behind Kemosabe - “The word Kemosabe has 2 different meanings, dependent on what version of the film “The Lone Ranger” you watch.  One meaning is dear friend, the other is wrong brother.  So I use Kemosabe in the same way, its to describe something you love at one point and hate at the other.  Kemosabe shore relates to the modern day struggles with the french beaches in WWII. Struggles seem endless and you usually hate the work you have to put in at the time, but in reminiscent state of mind these struggles are seen as the best times of your life, unlike WWII"

The band are currently working on new studio recordings & demo tracks.

Founded in 2014 by Axel Otero (a.k.a Axel Ghost) The Synthpop solo-project Lay Your Ghostbased out of Miami, Florida has recently announced that the debut EP 'A Darker Love' has been released on exclusively through Bandcamp.

Lay Your Ghost is For Fans Of: William Control, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode etc.)

Axel is currently focusing on the future of his solo-project and wants to start touring. He also just got out of the studio mixing the 'Revelations' album by long time friend William Control.

" It's definitely an experience that I will treasure. Writing and working with William and Kenneth was awesome. I guess the main thing was that it felt like we were in the same mindset and it made all this work really fun. We had a blast! I'm really excited about this new album and what's ahead for William and The Neuromantic Boys." he says to Dark City Publicity.

Axel also has plans on moving to Seattle, WA in the near future to record the second Lay Your Ghost album which is being released through Control Records at Hells Half Acre.

We asked him what inspired his body of work and he replied with;

" I've always loved music with some form of duality in it. I wanted to do something that was danceable, melodic, but with lyrics that weren't necessarily the happiest. I also wanted to set a mood throughout the album and make the listener get lost in it. Each time I write something for Lay Your Ghost I feel like I'm closer to what I want LYG to sound like but I also feel that this EP is definitely a strong start towards the right direction. Musically, there are some obvious influences, but i'm mainly inspired by european Synthpop and EBM groups. Lyrically, for this album I was inspired by horror movies, tv shows, stories and mainly personal stuff running through my head. "
