ARTIST: THE EASTERN SWELL
LABEL: STEREOGRAM RECORDINGS
RELEASE: RATTLING BONES
FORMAT: DOWNLOAD ONLY SINGLE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 2nd 2016

The lead single from the forthcoming “One Day, A Flood” debut album by The Eastern Swell is “Rattling Bones”. Written by guitarist and vocalist Chris Reeve and produced by Pete Harvey (King Creosote, Modern Studies, Meursault), it will be available to download from September 2nd and serves as an excellent primer for the album.
A multi sectioned track, after a brief calm before the storm, we’re suddenly catapulted into a dark hypnotic guitar riff with echoes of Link Wray, Duane Eddy, The Cramps and Led Zeppelin abound, before we emerge into the light and the song proper commences.
Against a gorgeous, almost Countryesque backdrop, lead vocalist Lainie Urqhuart sings about the fears of getting older and the vulnerability of love: “I’m troubled by thoughts, but I’m prepared to walk this roughshod path to its end”.
After a couple of minutes, an unexpected key change and guitar solo ushers us into the third section of the song before we return to the opening guitar riff as the song reaches its thundering climax.
The album “One Day, A Flood” is released on CD and download on Stereogram Recordings on September 16th 2016. The band play The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on Sunday 18th September with support from Candythief.
Press quotes
“The songs were like stories, not just lyrically but musically, taking you to wonderful places and then moving you along to another wonderful place.” 7aheadmusic.
“Off to an auspicious start, and with such a broad musical range to draw from, a debut album is an enticing prospect indeed.” Ravechild.co.uk
“laced with country-tinged harmonies, rockabilly twangs, sweet Appalachian blues and the occasional laid-back heartbreaker” The Skinny
“touches of Americana, a tinge of country-rock and a soupcon of psychedelic folk blending organ-wash with vibrant guitar overlaid by longing female vocals, there’s something good going on here but I guess we wait for the album to really get inside their music.” Folkwords.com
“from the opening chords, listeners are engulfed and captured by their imagination. It’s master storytelling at its best.” Is This Music?

Suit of Lights.

Having dedicated his life to music since an early age, Joe Darone, pursued a career as a drummer and then in 2003 he decided to focus on songwriting allowing for Suit of Lights to be born.
The genre defying band takes its listeners on a musical adventure far into the unknown with each track. The band, named after The Matador’s Traje de luces, symbolise the beauty and brutality of life with their strong melodic sensibility with varying influences from Bach to The Buzzcocks.

Exploring lyrical themes such as open mindedness and self empowerment, “Break Open the Head” the new album from Suit of Lights, has strong English influences with nods towards artists such as The Beatles, The Kinks and more avant-garde artists such as King Crimson. The album boasts a truly original sound which in turn generates a strong reaction from its listeners. Often being categorised as an indie rock or alternative band, they also incorporate elements of punk, synth pop, metal and even baroque.

"Even the greatest musical elitists will find something to love on this album"- RAG Magazine

Pushing the boundaries of modern music, “Break Open the Head” has the energy of punk, the immediacy of pop, the innovation of progressive rock and the timeless beauty of “serious” composers. This makes the band, and their music, distinct and innovative whilst cutting edge and acknowledging of songwriting tradition. Ultimately the band is fearless when it comes to creating music.

The Society are Harry Beresford (lead vocals/Rhythm guitar), Lew Whalley (Lead guitar/Backing vocals), Tayte Nickols (Bass/Backing Vocals) and Jason Hanley (Drums).     The band are set to release their debut single ‘Begging’ on 16-09-2016, a track which has already attracted a significant amount of positive feedback; over 100k views on their Facebook page in just under a month. Following the uploading of the original, unmastered version of the track, it began to draw waves of positive feedback from all over the UK, and helped the band to gain plaudits from far and wide.

The band met whilst attending Trafford College in Manchester.  After playing in a handful of previous bands, Lew Whalley and Harry Beresford met and instantly developed a strong musical bond, later forming the foundation of The Society.  Since then, the pair have worked together in a number of indie & rock projects, whilst continuously composing original material together. After experimenting with numerous band line ups and a range of musical styles, they began to draw on pop and dance infleunces from years gone by. This blend of genres is now at the core of The Society's fresh new sound.
In late 2015, Lew and Harry decided to seek new additions for their project. After playing in a number of local bands, Jason Hanley was looking for a change of direction and responded to an online advert. Following a successful audition, Jason joined the band in the latter part of 2015, just as The Society were beginning to experiment with a more dance-inspired indie pop sound.  The final piece of the jigsaw saw the arrival of Tayte Nickols, a talented multi-instrumentalist who had recently moved to the area. Tayte was seeking new musical opportunities, and after some prosperous jam sessions, he joined up with the band shortly before they were due to enter the studio.   The band, now complete and drawing comparisons to other artists like ‘The 1975’, ‘Coldplay’ & ‘Bastille’, steadily started growing their fan base in and around the North West following a string of successful live performances. Their presence on social media has also allowed the band to branch out and gain new fans from across the country.
The band will be supporting Alan McGee’s ‘Musicians Against Homelessness’ project by performing at ‘The Live Room’ Manchester. They will play alongside Andy Bennett (Ocean Colour Scene) and a range of other talented acts on 07-10-2016. The band are also currently planning a future UK tour to promote their forthcoming debut album, which is set for release towards the end of 2017.

The band are also planning several UK radio interviews / live acoustic performances throughout August, September and October 2016.

In the ten years since the Huerta-Uecke siblings started recording together they’ve released four albums, sold out tours throughout the Americas, received five Latin Grammys and a US Grammy nomination.

Now Jesse & Joy are cueing up their first official release in the UK - ‘Echoes of Love/ Ecos de Amor’. This new double-sided-double-language single will feature both the English translation and the original Spanish version of the song.

Since its release in August ‘Ecos de Amor’ has amassed 32 million streams and 66 million views of the official video (on YouTube alone). Jesse & Joy have now recorded the English version – Echoes Of Love – and will be releasing it in the UK on July 22nd 2016 coupled with the original version. Produced by Jesse and Fraser T Smith (Adele, Sam Smith, CeeLo Green, Ellie Goulding) the record blends pop, folk, Latin rhythms and Joy’s powerhouse vocals on this heart-breaking ballad.

The official video can be viewed here:

Jesse & Joy’s 2012 album ‘¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?’ (Who Keeps The Dog?) - their third studio album - is certified 3x platinum in Mexico and is also platinum in the US, Argentina and Chile. Their single ‘Corre’ from the record has had over 400 million views on YouTube alone and topped radio charts. The duo’s 2015 album - produced by Fraser T Smith and Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, James Morrison, Shawn Mendes) - ‘Un Besito Mas’ (One More Kiss) debuted at number 1 across Latin American and on the US Latin Chart. Recent single ‘No Soy Una De Esas’ reached number 1 in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile as well as dominating the charts in other Latin American countries.

Along with their off-the-scale success in Latin America, the duo have also been rapidly growing a fan base across the US having sold-out shows in Miami, NYC, San Diego, Las Vegas, Houston and L.A. Jesse & Joy made their SXSW debut in Austin TX this year performing at Spotify House alongside CHVRCHES, Kacey Musgraves, Miguel and Lukas Graham.

For Jesse & Joy their music is also a tool to promote peace and non-violence throughout Latin American communities. Their efforts were recently recognised by Yoko Ono’s Non-Violence Project Foundation and they were awarded The Voice of Peace accolade in celebration of the organisation’s 30th anniversary.

The pop duo is truly exceptional. Joy’s extraordinary and unique voice, Jesse’s outstanding musical talent and their joint ability to compose such passionate arrangements combine to create heartfelt stories in the form of music.

On July 29th, budding alt-pop newcomer Harper returns with ‘Skin’, her new EP released on ICU Label.

Described as ‘the full package’ by The 405, the South London songstress burst onto the scene earlier this year with the release of her debut EP ‘Blood Sweat Tears’, followed by a string of breathtaking live dates including the Alternative Escape stage at The Great Escape Festival. Originally hailing from Bristol, the 24-year-old chanteuse draws inspiration from her experiences as a young woman in a male-dominated industry, as well as issues of cultural diversity and tumultuous relationships. Influenced by empowered females of all genres - from Björk and Kate Bush to Beyoncé and Rihanna - the breadth of Harper’s abilities truly know no bounds.

On ‘Skin’, Harper delivers a sensual, sultry vocal over a pulsing electro beat with an instantly addictive hook, purring ‘I will be there for you / Let me cover you like skin’. Trading the brooding, emotive intensity of ‘Blood Sweat Tears’ for a sassier, urban-infused style and bold attitude, ‘Skin’ demonstrates the versatility of an artist ready to confidently tackle a range of genres.

Speaking about ‘Skin’, Harper says: "Skin is an earthy, raw, alt-pop record with a much deeper concept than you may perceive from first impressions. I wanted to write about the properties of 'skin'; how it's our protective barrier from the world, it's power to heal when cut, and apply that sentiment to my love for a person."

The ‘Skin’ EP is available to download on July 29th, including the following tracks: Skin / Pride/ Flaws/ Back Fire

After winning over festival crowds in their native Switzerland & picking up national radio and TV attention there, sleek electro-rockers Matto Rules are turning their attentions to the rest of the world. Tonight is a pulsating introduction to a band that have built a loyal European fanbase with their slick mix of pop melodies, electronica soundscapes and indie rock guitars.

With the name of the band inspired by Matto, the ghost of insanity in Friedrich Glauser’s pulp novel In Matto’s Realm, the band’s music mixes euphoric pop choruses with a restless rock escapism & electro tension. After being invited to work with acclaimed LA producer Michael Patterson (Beck, BRMC, Duran Duran) their early singles led to sold out tour dates and radio playlistings in Europe. To give Tonight and their debut album What Comes Around (out now) the right balance of studio polish and raw emotion, the band enlisted Chicago producer Ben Treimer (MuteMath, Emmylou Harris). Released earlier this year & picking up rave press reviews in Europe, the new album is already cementing Matto Rules as a musical force to be reckoned with.

Anchorage, Alaska born singer and songwriter Earl today reveals the video for her new single ‘I Love You’.

The video for ‘I Love You’ was shot in the beautifully gothic surroundings of Careville Castle, in Tullamore, Ireland. Said to be one of the most Haunted Castles in the world, Earl was immediately on board to shoot her video for the single there. The resulting clip is as dark as it is fairytale-like, and sums up Earl’s whole personality perfectly.

Born in the remote town of Anchorage, Earl grew up singing gospel in her local church choir. A beginning that has, by Earl’s own admission, shaped her sound to this day and continues to do so.

Having moved to Los Angeles aged 18 to develop her sound, Earl now finds herself in London pursuing her musical ambitions to the full. After being championed by the BBC Introducing team and seeing her first independent release being playlisted at Radio 2, Earl got her first record deal and signed to the legendary BMG Record label. She is currently working on her debut album, set for release in early 2017.

The first single from that debut will be ‘I Love You’, released on September 9th. ‘I Love You’ is a laid back piece of jazz tinged summer soul, with a classic production showcasing Earls incredible voice and the simplicity of her song-writing perfectly.

The track release will follow Earls BBC Introducing ‘LIVE FROM MAIDA VALE’ session, which airs on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show on 23rd August.

Earl releases ‘I Love You’ on Sept 9th through BMG Records

THE SPITFIRES announce highly anticipated Second Album

Watford quartet The Spitfires are extremely pleased to announce their ‘A Thousand Times’ 2016 UK headline tour dates throughout August, September, October and November. Tickets are on sale now at: tinyurl.com/athousandtimestour

The dates are in support of their highly anticipated second album ‘A Thousand Times’ which will be released on 26th August 2016 via Catch 22 Records. Fans can preorder the record now, here: thespitfires.tmstor.es

The album is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut ‘Response’ which saw the band enter high in the UK Album Charts and reach #6 in both the independent and vinyl charts, with their recent single ‘So Long’ charting at #1 in UK Vinyl Singles Chart. Building on the success they’ve managed to establish so far, ‘A Thousand Times’ looks certain to cement their reputation as one of the most vital young bands of their generation.

Their work ethic and powerful song-writing mixed with their acute social commentary and lack of mainstream industry support has made this fiercely independent band one of the most popular underground success stories in the UK today. This DIY attitude and independent spirit has earned them a dedicated following and sold out shows across the whole of the UK and Europe.

Across the 11 tracks on ‘A Thousand Times’ it’s possible to detect a sharper, deeper vision for the band and a more honed song-writing craft than we’ve previously seen. Indeed, first single ‘So Long’ was a taste of things to come, reaching number one in the UK Vinyl chart.

The classic pop theme is carried into the title track and the stunning ‘On My Mind’ with tracks like ‘Day to Day’ and ‘Return To Me’ showing a natural progression in style, whilst the thrilling ‘I Don’t Even Know Myself’ shows influence from dub, reggae and ska, all hinting at bigger things (and venues) to come.

All songs are written by Billy Sullivan and the album is produced by Tom Pullen at CDS Studios in Chelmsford.

‘A Thousand Times’ is released 26th August on Vinyl, Limited 7” Boxset, CD and Digital Download
