Nasiono Records
8 August 2015
Pure Phase Ensemble 4 feat. Mark Gardener (RIDE) to release 'Live at SpaceFest' LP

"It runs from soft, drifting music with a huge amount of space that makes me feel like Im lying in a field staring up at the clouds in a bright blue sky to psyched out masses of guitars spiralling off into the stars" ~ Adrian Bloxham, Louder Than War

"Definitely among the best set of tracks involving Mark Gardener since RIDE's heyday. Absolutely stunning delivery that leaves me wanting more" ~ The Record Stache

FOR LOVERS OF: Ride, Spiritualized, Radiohead, Creation Records' output
GENRES EXPLORED: shoegaze, space rock, indie rock, alternative rock, post-rock, dreampop, ambient
LEAD TRACKS: Peter Song, Doing My Head In, Morning Rise, Happy Dancing Woman (original and radio edit)
GOING FOR ADDS: 8/11

Pure Phase Ensemble is an international music collective, created especially for the SpaceFest festival in Gdansk, which takes place annually in December and is organised by the Nasiono Association. The city of Gdansk plays host to this blossoming music festival each year in the first week of December, at which time numerous select musicians from Poland and abroad gather to take part in a special workshop series. They collectively compose a concert's worth of music, which they then present live to the festival-goers. Each year, this unique performance is recorded live and subsequently released as an LP.

The programme for each workshop is jointly curated by Ray Dickaty, a British saxophonist improviser and former member of Spiritualized (1997-2002), and Karol Schwarz(KSAS), who also manages Nasiono Records. Along with these two key figures, every festival involves a new musical director - a legendary, internationally recognised musician, who is invited to co-curate the workshop.

During the latest SpaceFest, Mark Gardener, the frontman of celebrated shoegaze pioneers RIDE who also recently released an LP with Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), occupied this seat of honour.  Past participants include Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab), Chris Olley (Six By Seven), Steve Hewitt (ex Placebo), and Jaime Harding (Marion).

"For me, this it interesting - it's perfect because it reminds me in some ways of how some of the early Ride songs came together.. I didn't come in with a script, nor does Ray. There is no pre-work on this. It was just completely spontaneous," explains Mark Gardener. "Sometimes music like that is good before things get thought about too much and worked on too much. That can kill the energy sometimes. Of course some things have got to be worked and developed, but in this scenario, with such little time and to get an interesting set together, I think it's been good to keep it fresh and not over-worked."

"The way we've arranged the music - for me, it starts off in a certain mood and goes through a tremendous amount of emotions and then returns to the familiar mood we started with at the beginning. It's a perfect circle of music," says Ray Dickaty.

Pure Phase Ensemble 4 'Live at SpaceFest!' is currently available on Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify and the CD is also available on the Nasiono Records website

Acclaimed Musician, Yogi, Feminist; at 25 years old Alysha Brilla is fast becoming a name on everyone's lips. This summer Alysha is set to release her second UK single Immigrant taken from her current album Womyn.

A practicing yogi, Alysha's work extends beyond her music and late last year she launched Womyn a branded philosophy that encapsulates the singers artistry and ideology.

"WOMYN is feminist. It is progressive. It is strong and it is meaningful. In my view, our world needs feminist womyn, men and non-gendered peoples to take a stand on behalf of 'women's rights'."

Alysha carries this philosophy into her art, with her current album titled Womyn it is no surprise that this body of work is a complete encapsulate of the brand. The lead single Immigrant is a comment on the importance of the worlds diversity and celebrates every individual.

Alysha has been honoured with the Oktoberfest Woman of the Year Award, and her work continues to surpass those of her peers.

Over the past couple of years Alysha's music has received nothing but praise, claiming titles such as the 2015 International Songwriting Contest Winner2014 UK Songwriter Contest Winner & Anokhi Music Award, not to mention a host of Juno nominations (The Canadian Brits). Brilla's music has also been featured on major network television shows including King & Degrassi; The Next Generation.

Syf

Rapper Syfa (aka Syf), 23, rooted in North West London showcases authenticity in the rap game. Staying loyal to sick flows and fire lyrics his versatility has no bounds as he is also part of an alternative duo; Fifth Quarter. His creativity is proven within Fifth Quarter but his solo work reveals a strong foundation for what’s yet to come from this fresh artist this year in 2015.

Philip George ‘Alone No More

Impact: 2nd Oct   Label: 3Beat / Universal

‘Alone No More’ is the follow up to the biggest selling dance record of 2015, Philip George’s ‘Wish You Were Mine’, which recently went platinum in the UK.

It’s been a life-changing, almost surreal story for 22 year old Philip George. Just 8 months ago, he was folding clothes at his day job in Next and serving pints at night at his local golf club, heading home to make music in his bedroom and uploading to a growing army of SoundCloud followers.

Fast-forward to summer 2015 and he’s sold over 700,000 copies and amassed over 165,000 global radio plays of ‘Wish You Were Mine’ – a debut single that came with Stevie Wonder and Motown’s blessing.

Since the release of ‘Wish You Were Mine’, Philip’s been honing his production skills in a Nottingham studio, dropping new club tracks for his own sets and remixes for the flood of requests that have come his way. Earmarked as one of the UK’s most promising DJ/producers in years, you can hear a strong musical grounding in everything he does – he’s classically trained on the piano and also plays drums – alongside a deep knowledge of electronic music.

With forthcoming gigs at Bestival, Creamfields, and Warehouse Project, a summer residency at Cream at Amnesia, and shows at Stealth, We R Fstvl, EDC UK, Sankeys Ibiza, V Festival, and Made, Philip’s shared the stage with the DJs and producers he used to read about, from Duke Dumont to Hannah Wants and beyond. And he’s having the time of his life.

Ilana J is a British singer songwriter. Having turned down the opportunity to enter the prestigious London College of Music at thirteen in favour of a more traditional academic education, a successful healthcare career followed, but her soul has always craved a more creative outlet.

Following an extended visit to the US in 2008, Ilana made the decision to devote her life to songwriting and recording, diving into intensive musical training on both the guitar and the piano, and immediately writing prolifically, as if the lyrics had always been there just waiting to find their way out.

Ilana J's musical style has evolved naturally, influenced by the likes of Sting, Coldplay and Keane, and although her musical journey has been a solitary one, her passion has brought her to the attention of key people who have worked with her to nurture her talents. A chance meeting with Mark Alexander, ex-keyboard player with Meat Loaf, has resulted in him becoming her producer.

The resulting debut EP 'Free Falling From The Ground Up' is inspired by how she feels now that music is back in her life where it belongs; " I am letting the music and the lyrics 'free fall' out of me and am growing everyday from the 'ground up' which is intensely fulfilling on a whole new level".

The six track record has provided a single which will be released on September 14th 2015. Entitled 'Paper Planes', the track was inspired by her trauma as a teenager when her younger brother tragically died. With the passing of the years the pain has receded and this song is dedicated to his memory with a message of hope and peace. The accompanying video, filmed in New York City, will be released in the first week of September.

Ilana's songs express simple and heartfelt themes of love, joy and real life; influenced by her own life stories and her core values of love and appreciation for the beauty of the world we live in.

Hannah in the Wars
Only Wanna Be
99X/10
14 September 2015
Songwriter Hannah Curwood originates from the stark, remote region of Central Otago in New Zealand. Now based in London, Hannah in the Wars is the result of working alongside Roger O'Donnell of The Cure and a handpicked group of musicians.

Hannah in the Wars' eponymous debut album, released earlier this year, is a collection of beautifully written melodies and emotionally engaging narratives, taking inspiration from life's trials and triumphs and perfectly showcasing Curwoods distinctive and powerful vocals.

Both 'Only Wanna Be' and B-side 'Sweet Release', lifted from the critically acclaimed album, were written following the breakdown of a relationship and Curwood's decision to move half way around the world to start afresh. Of the songs, she says their creation came easily and, despite the subject matter, they have come to occupy a positive space in her mind, particularly after seeing them so well received by audiences on her recent two month tour across the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Berlin.

Sweet Release is a thoughtful tune, beguiling in its simplicity. The smooth violins at the heart of the piece, gives a bizarre sense of unease, despite the lulling tempo. The song, lyrically and musically, gives a feeling of agelessness to Curwoods vocal quality. However, the halting, breathy nature of the chorus brings it right into the modern era. The violin solo has echoes of the style of Warren Ellis (of the Bad Seeds).
Pure M Magazine

Every song on the album could be considered a hit song and they all have their own personality and uniqueness with different and creative songwriting twists. Hannah In The Wars new album injects Hannahs heart and soul into each lyric of each song and surrounds her beautiful voice with perfectly organized arrangements that carry her emotional songs to heavenly heights.

GILLIAN GLOVER

Gillian Glover was born in England in 1976. Circa 1981, she wandered on stage from the side of a Deep Purple concert, watching her father Roger play bass. Mesmerised by the audience before her. She was promptly removed.

A few years after moving to the United States in 1984, she completed her first known recording, produced by her father in his basement studio; It was a rap song written with a friend, featuring synthesizers, silly sound effects and samples and has thankfully since been lost. She attended New YorkUniversity 1994-1998, with a brief stint in FlorenceItaly. She studied painting and got her hands very dirty.

Having a musician for a father strangely made her shy away from performing until this point in her life. But perhaps it was just in her blood? She was 22 and was far, far away when she first sang in front of other people. In 1998 Gillian bought a one-way ticket to Egyptto become a professional divemaster. Though she spent her days scuba diving, music crept up and bit her at night. She joined her first band there in 1999. After oscillating between EgyptNew York and London, she settled in the latter in 2001.

Red Handed: Gillian’s debut solo album, Red Handed, was recorded in 2005. The album was completed and released in 2006 and in France in 2007. In 2009 Gillian and bass player, Travis, had a son. So far, his drumming skills look quite promising. The couple had a daughter, Aranea, in late 2011.  She appears to have a good set of vocal chords…A trilogy!

Roger Glover released another solo album If Life Was Easy in 2012, on which Gillian has co-written and sung two tracks.

Gillian also designs jewellery using recycled guitar strings.

MARSHA SWANSON

Marsha can count author Lionel Shriver as a fan, who describes her music as “delightful”

With her distinctive English folk-tinged voice and direct delivery, there is a deceptive simplicity to her songs. A fragility that disguises her assured musicianship. Drawing inspiration from classic songwriters but blended with Marsha’s identity, she delivers a unique brand of grown-up pop.  Marsha’s compositions range from intimate ballads (Still Wrong/Don’t Blame it on Love), through pop (My Life My Own/Hoovering the Sky) to atmospheric “soundscapes” (Madame M/Touching the Void/Brave Face).

Seldom is an artist difficult to ‘pigeon-hole’- but Marsha Swanson dares you to try with every sweeping musical side step that her vocals and music brings. Her new single is no different and should see reviewers raising their eyebrows with this pandora’s box of music surprises.

…delightful”  Lionel Shriver

HELENE GREENWOOD

Helene Greenwood’s latest concept-video Flat Roof House is her first release from her upcoming album Exquisitely Hopeless. The video produced by Rebecca Lennon

http://relennon.smugmug.com\ uses archive footage, and analogue distortion to depict the fragmented, floating world of a character's thoughts from inside her kitchen.

Helene Greenwood is a London based singer and composer. She was born in Dover, with a view of Dover Castle from her bedroom window. She started composing at the age of 10, and one of her earliest memories was playing along with thunderstorms.

She studied composition with John Woolrich. He said that “music is made from hundreds of pebbles, and that each pebble has a different idea, and every pebble needs a special colour and quality to it.”

Her first album “Collectable You” was recorded with a beautiful band in the spirit of narrative folk and jazz, recording the album in a week. Martin Townsend in his review in the Sunday Express said “One to watch.”

Her second album, to be released later in 2015, explores the ethereal moments of beauty in the domestic environment, singing from inside a crystal vase and gazing at the reflections of kitchen units. She journeys outside gazing in wonder at the beach, and from inside the moon, in a state of awe, like an alien. She visits a visionary psychic, Madame Marina, who lives in an empty house perched on the cliff edge.

Influenced by Hammer Horror movie scores and distorted dream pop, the songs retrieve memories from the present and past before the disappear.
